Timothy M. Goldfarb joined Shands HealthCare as Chief Executive Officer in July 2001. Shands HealthCare is a private, not-for-profit healthcare system affiliated with the University of Florida and its Health Science Center campuses in Gainesville and Jacksonville. The system includes eight Shands hospitals and two home-health agencies. Shands is affiliated with more than 1,500 UF and community physicians. In addition, Shands has a workforce of more than 13,000 employees and 2,300 volunteers. Shands is a leader for healthcare referrals in the state of Florida and the healthcare system is among the most respected in the Southeast. Mr. Goldfarb serves as senior officer for Shands HealthCare. Executes the full range of management functions directly through subordinate executives and is accountable for all aspects of systems operations. Provides for the human resources and environment of care to ensure the best quality of patient care for the dollars invested (value). Provides competent and ethical leadership in the achievement of goals and objectives. His prior professional health care experience includes Director, University Hospital and Health Care Systems and Associate Director, Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Oregon. Earlier in his career, he served as Senior Associate Director, Arizona Medical Center and Assistant Administrator, Tucson General Hospital, Tucson, Arizona. Mr. Goldfarb has been active in a variety of professional associations. He served as Chair of the Governing Board of the University HealthSystem Consortium from 2006-2009. He also served as the 2007/2008 Chair of the Florida Hospital Association. He previously served as Chairman, Council of Teaching Hospitals of the Association of American Medical Colleges and Chair of the Oregon Association of Hospitals and Health Systems. Mr. Goldfarb serves as a member of the United Way of North Central Florida Board of Directors in which he was the 2006 Campaign Chair. Mr. Goldfarb is a member of the Boards of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and the National Foundation for Trauma. Mr. Goldfarb received his degree in Political Science and his Masters in Health Services Administration at Arizona State University. He and his wife, Laura, have three daughters and four grandchildren.
